Bruce Comben Reserve, is a 17 ha recreational open space in Altona Meadows including active sports facilities and passive open space.

Hobsons Bay City Council conducted an extensive site review involving research and collaboration with key stakeholders and community groups.The Review identified a need to create a ‘Community Heart’ for the people of Altona Meadows to meet and connect whilst enhancing the existing sporting facilities to cater to the demands of a growing population.

Specifications

Creating a community heart for all to enjoy includes the need to provide safe and refreshing amenity for all park users.

In this situation it was identified that a Changing Places facility should be included to serve the requirements of severely disabled persons and their carers. ACLA Landscape Architects worked extensively with Conrad from STELLAR Washrooms to prepare a building design that met the community needs, and blends seamlessly with the landscape design.

Stakeholders

Josh from ACLA Landscape Architects worked with STELLAR Washrooms to provide Hobsons Bay City Council achieve their vision. JMAC Constructions was the nominated head contractor responsible for building the project.

Challenges

Large sites such as these often present challenges in terms of unknown details relating to soil contamination, presence of rock, existence and distance of essential infrastructure such as sewer, water, power and stormwater discharge. The experienced consultants at STELLAR Washrooms are able to assist with these processes to bring about a conclusive result and viable way forward.

Result

The completed building provides users with the highest standard of facilities whilst the investment by HBCC is providing a low maintenance and durable facility.
